The CRESCO Adria project aims to improve the capacity of urban and coastal communities in the Adriatic region to respond to climate change (CC) in terms of improved resilience and adaptive capacity. The project will define the prerequisites for the inclusion of climate change adaptation plans for local communities in the territorial planning and lifelong learning process in order to increase their knowledge of climate risks and associated vulnerabilities and improve their capacity for for spatial planning of climate change adaptation. Within this framework, the main objective of the project is to produce joint Guidelines for land use planning that enables adaptation to climate change.
Within the project, the Abruzzo Region will mainly deal with:
- Providing experience in the implementation of Strategies and Plans in the field of climate change, including coordination with Municipalities and stakeholders for the implementation and monitoring of local plans.
- Involve Municipalities and stakeholders (intermediary between local and national level) in project activities, as it normally collaborates with the Local Authorities.
- Select pilot areas (in line with existing Strategies and Plans and project needs) and contribute to the development of the adaptation of the related Plans.
- Strengthen its methodology/tools and capacity for monitoring data, climate actions and plans.
- Completion of joint training programmes: partnerships and exchange of experiences and information are essential contributions to capacity building and long-term learning. By completing joint training programmes, relevant knowledge is shared between partners. This will build the capacity to adapt to climate change. By participating in and recording all discussions, meetings, workshops or trainings and working with other partners at national and bilateral level, the necessary knowledge will be included in academic curricula and made available for use by interested students. By jointly completing the training programmes, the project encourages cooperation between government organisations, academic institutions and private companies to better monitor the effects of climate change and plan and define appropriate adaptation strategies in line with the European Green Deal and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Joint strategies and action plans adopted by the organisations: partners will assess vulnerabilities and establish strategic recommendations for climate change adaptation in the spatial planning process, test the plan in a small number of local communities, discuss the process with stakeholders and ultimately recommend the implementation of the climate change adaptation plan to other communities. Dissemination of project results will be present in each WP through public media, stakeholder workshops and/or scientific or professional journals. All materials will be publicly available on the project web pages.
